Stanbic IBTC Bank Global Markets, as the bank’s treasury is referred to, is a team of traders, analysts and sales managers of varying treasury background, experience and specialisation. The group is supported by a network of treasuries in 17 African countries and the Standard Bank treasuries in London and South Africa.
Trading
Stanbic IBTC Bank does the following:
- It trades in secondary market paper issued by the funding desk and other banking institutions.
- It assists clients in the issue of short-term corporate paper.
- It serves as Stanbic IBTC Bank’s internal lending arm and manages the interest rate risk inherent in the bank’s book.
- It manages Stanbic IBTC Bank’s liquid asset portfolio. This involves tendering for liquid assets and ensuring that the bank has adequate reserves, in compliance with Reserve Bank regulations.
Sales structuring and derivatives
The sales and structuring division aims to provide an ongoing sales service to its clients by monitoring and evaluating the appropriateness of trades entered into with respect to changing market and regulatory conditions. In this respect existing trades can be restructured and new solutions developed to manage the client’s exposure more effectively.
Asset and liability management
The Asset and liability management Unit (ALMU) collectively manages the financial risks relating to Stanbic IBTC Bank’s assets and liabilities, comprising broadly of interest rate, liquidity and depositor concentration risks. |
